Immigrant visas allow the foreign national to become a lawful permanent resident in the United States. The two primary methods to obtain lawful permanent resident status are by Family-Based Immigration and Employment-Based Immigration. There are other methods also such as through Asylum-Refugee status, Diversity Visas and several less common methods.
