In-House Stem Cell Regenerative Therapy
In October 2010 Dr. Tom Newland became one of the first veterinarians in the Phoenix area to be trained by Dr. Mike Hutchinson with Medi-Vet Laboratories on a new technique involving In-House Stem Cell Therapy. Shortly after, both Dr. Newland and Theo Pyres, CVT, became certified to perform the procedure. In-House Stem Cell Regenerative Therapy uses ground-breaking technology to harvest adipose stem cells from the fat tissue of animals. After these cells have been extracted and activated they are injected into the arthritic joints of the animal. This is all performed while your pet is under light anesthesia. The technology created by Medi-Vet Laboratories allows for the entire procedure to be completed in the hospital and all in one day. Other technologies take several days for the cells to be harvested, activated, and then injected, which also requires the animal to be under anesthesia multiple times on different days.
We are now offering in-house regenerative stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in both dogs and cats. This is a drug free treatment that is performed in-house on a same-day basis. The procedure is proven to relieve pain and increase range of motion. In many cases we can see treated animals walking, running and jumping as little as three weeks after the procedure.

Nutritional Counseling
During your pet's annual visit, we may also discuss your pet's diet, and make sure they are on a healthy, appropriate diet. We can also make recommendations for weight management and weight loss. We recommend grain-inclusive diets that meet AAFCO and WSAVA guidelines (read more here on why grain-inclusive diets are recommended).
Comprehensive Examination
At Adobe Animal Hospital we believe that preventative care is very important in the early detection of disease in our canine and feline patients. We believe in vaccinating pets based on exposure and necessity. We strongly recommend annual examinations be performed on every pet, every year. Annual lab work can also help detect issues before symptoms occur and can be a helpful baseline to compare with if a pet becomes ill.
We offer special pricing on Junior and Senior labwork profiles that include your pet’s examination and their annual Heartworm test.
Pain Management
Dr. Jennifer Fitzpatrick, DVM joined the Adobe Animal Hospital team this year. She graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Biology and then went on to graduate in 2003 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She has spent the last 18 years in small animal general practice and emergency veterinary medicine. Her special interests include internal medicine, dermatology and surgery. Pain management is very important to her and she strives to make each pet as comfortable as possible. Dr. Fitzpatrick loves outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and off roading – anything that gets adrenaline pumping! She also enjoys spending time with her dogs, backyard chickens and unwinding with her hands in the dirt "grounding" in the garden.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Our doctors perform head to tail examinations of each patient during their visit to our clinic. This includes examining your pet’s eyes, ears, oral cavity, skin and coat, and any area of concern. The doctor will listen carefully to your pet’s heart and lungs and perform a palpation of your pet’s abdomen. Depending on any concerns, a more thorough inspection of a specific area may be needed.
Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
At Adobe Animal Hospital, we treat many dogs and cats with allergy issues involving the skin, ears, eyes, and respiratory system. In some cases, we may refer your pet to a veterinary dermatologist for further evaluation and treatment of allergy-related issues.
These are some of our patients who have benefited from Regenerative Stem Cell Therapy for the treatment of Osteoarthritis. We have seen huge improvements in many of our patients, and many have been able to come off of medications that they needed prior to stem cell therapy!
Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Presented as a 3 year old mixed breed who came to us with hip dysplasia so severe that hip replacement surgery was recommended for both hips. After discussing stem cell therapy with the owner, we brought in an orthopedic surgeon to perform the hip replacement in the right hip, and stem cell therapy was performed on the left side. Molly's left hip was injected with stem cells, and additional stem cells were administered intravenously, as well. (Un)fortunately, Molly was feeling so good after treatment, she attempted to jump her gate and broke her right femur. The orthopedic surgeon returned and repaired her broken leg. After 3 months, Molly returned for radiographs to assess the healing of the fractured leg (which had healed very well!), but we were struck by the amazing effects the stem cell treatment had had on her left hip! The arthritis had actually REVERSED itself to a certain extent. While we knew stem cell therapy could improve a patient's comfort with arthritis, the visible improvement to the hip joint on X-rays was an unexpected and exciting development.
Heart Disease Treatment
At this time, many people have been concerned about their pet’s food and the recent FDA announcement regarding the possible link between “grain-free” diets and Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). “Canine DCM is a disease of a dog’s heart muscle and results in an enlarged heart. As the heart and its chambers become dilated, it becomes harder for the heart to pump, and heart valves may leak, leading to a buildup of fluids in the chest and abdomen (FDA, 2019). This type of heart disease is more common in certain breeds of dogs, but the recent influx of DCM cases in breeds not typically pre-disposed has stirred the FDA to look into the possible cause.
Kidney Disease Treatment
At Adobe Animal Hospital we recommend and perform anesthetic dentistry procedures on canine and feline patients. Dental disease not only affects your pet’s teeth, but chronic inflammation and bacteria in the mouth can also lead to heart and kidney disease, as well as other issues. Hidden dental issues can also cause tremendous discomfort to our pets, and most dogs and cats don’t show pain the way humans do.
Our doctors will also perform tooth extractions and minor oral surgery, when needed. If extractions are necessary the veterinarian or Certified Veterinary Technician will perform oral blocks to numb the necessary areas, and the doctor will perform all extractions and oral surgery.
