Dental Care
Dental care is vital to the overall health of any cat. Dental disease can lead to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common cat health issue among our pet population.
Vaccination
There are a variety of diseases which affect our cats and other animals. This makes proper vaccination vital in protecting them from the many types of illnesses they are susceptible to. It’s important to consult with us about the unique risks of living in our region. We will be happy to discuss the benefits of protecting your cat with vaccinations, as well as, provide you with information on the required vaccinations for your cat.

Obesity is a common problem among cats, as it can be easy to over-feed a cat that knows how to beg. But being overweight is a serious problem for animals, and can cause real health problems as they get older. With proper diet and exercise, all cats should be able to meet their dietary needs and be within a healthy weight range.
Comprehensive Examination
Our staff will get a chance to talk to you and see if you are having any trouble with your cat. We will also go over diet, preventative medicine, and exercise to ensure that your cat is as healthy as possible. Then, one of our veterinarians will do a complete physical examination on your cat. It is always good to have a baseline in case your cat ever becomes ill. We also want to monitor your cat’s weight, ensuring that your cat stays a healthy weight. It is much easier to start a diet when a cat is a pound overweight instead of fifteen! Our veterinarian will also look for any potential problems. Our goal is to catch any problems before they become major ones. The sooner that we are able to catch a problem, the easier it is to treat it and the more likely that your cat will make a full recovery!

Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
The Cat Doctor is one of few veterinary hospitals offering nostril enlargement for cats with respiratory problems. Certain cat breeds, particularly Persians, Himalayans and Exotic Short Hairs have trouble breathing through their nose because the nostril openings are too narrow. Cats that are affected by this problem are more prone to upper respiratory infections and will wheeze, snort or snore when they are sleeping. Chronic airway obstruction is uncomfortable and can compromise health and longevity.

Treatment for trauma in an ICU unit supplying oxygen, heat, i.v. fluid pumps, nebulizer, a BIOVet Plus monitor (ekg, pulse oximeter, blood pressure, temperature and respirometer) and doctor/technician monitoring.

Wound and Fracture Care
Elective surgery for spays and neuters. Minor Procedures for lacerations, bite wounds, abscesses. Surgical excision and biopsy of benign and malignant tumors.

Veterinary Surgery
Tumor resection, biopsies, gastro-intestinal foreign bodies, entropion and nose jobs for brachycephalic breeds like Persians who have very small nares (nose holes).
Laser Surgery
The Cat Doctor uses a surgical laser to perform many procedures in cats, such as removal of skin masses, superficial ear polyps, and surgeries involving delicate areas such as the nose. Laser surgery allows for faster surgery with less tissue trauma, swelling and post-operative pain.

Laboratory Services
On the same day of this procedure, your cat will be given a thorough physical examination, blood work will be evaluated in our lab and a nasal culture or upper respiratory profile may be performed. This surgery is done under general anesthesia and is performed as a sterile procedure. Two small incisions are made with the laser on either side of the nose and a crescent-shaped piece of skin is removed. The amount of skin removed depends on how tightly your cat’s nostrils are closed. Since we use a laser for this procedure, no sutures are required. Our comprehensive pain management protocol will ensure your cat’s comfort following the procedure.
X-Ray
Dental Radiology
The most effective way to protect your cat from dental disease is through professional cleanings. We perform thorough cleanings here at The Cat Doctor, including the area beneath the gums that you can’t see or access at home. We utilize dental x-rays to detect problems with the roots of the teeth and jaw bone to ensure we are providing the safest and most complete treatment possible.
Microchipping
Every year, thousands and thousands of cats go missing. Not knowing where your cat is or how to bring them back can be a helpless, hopeless feeling. It’s a tragedy that happens all too often. But there is a simple, safe, and effective way to ensure your cat’s safety and retrieval should they ever become lost. Microchipping is a standard procedure that implants a tiny chip underneath your cat’s fur. It is a painless and relatively fast procedure, and is completely safe. This microchip is registered with your cat’s vital information, and can be scanned by any veterinarian or animal shelter so that they can return your cat directly to you.
